Transfers from the airport to Hirafu are available by public bus, train to Kutchan, private bus or hire car.

The Hokkaido Shinkansen from Tokyo  currently terminates at Shin Hakodate Hokuto station. The extension to Sapporo is unfortunately, still some time away, scheduled for 2030.

Aside from 15m+ of Japow each year (11m and counting as at 12 Feb 18), Hokkaido produces the majority of Japan's wheat, soybeans, potatoes, sugar beet, onions, pumpkins, corn, milk and beef.
